Recently, we ran a short article about the opening of the Creation Museum in Kentucky. Yesterday was the big day, and the museum opened with great reviews and great protests. As you can imagine, the protests continue today as media outlets tell their version of the grand opening.
In all, over 4000 people attended the opening yesterday. Some were amazed and happy by what they saw, while others thought the displays were an outrage. Many others gathered across the street to protest the museum.
As you can guess, I think this museum is a great thing. It is needed and will help teach many people. It will also be a good thing if it causes people to debate the historical accuracy of the Bible in an open way. I hope to be able to visit the museum sometime. I think, besides being a great faith-builder, it would be intellectually stimulating.
Here are a couple of selected press releases that discuss the museum from both a positive and negative perspective:
ITV (from United Kingdom): Science Ignored at Creation Museum
Associated Press (as published on San Fransisco Gate): Ky. Creation Museum Opens to Thousands
The Creation Museum is set to open on Memorial Day (May 28th). This multi-million dollar museum (totally funded by donations) is designed to show dinosaurs and man together on the earth at the same time.
Vienna, Austria has an interesting resident who has recently garnered international attention. This resident’s name is Hiasl, and he is currently in the midst of an intriguing legal battle. You see, Hiasl is a chimpanzee – for now. If animal rights advocates have their way, he will soon be legally declared to be a “person.” The goal of such a move is to ensure him certain basic legal rights – including the right to own
property.
While this may be an isolated case for now, it seems to just be the next step in a trend started by evolutionists many years ago. It is the path to blur the lines between man and animal. If one accepts that man is nothing more than the highest evolved animal, then why not treat primates like equals? Why stop there?
Now I am certainly not advocating cruelty to animals. Man has been placed as stewards of the earth and its inhabitants; therefore we ought to treat it with respect. However, we must realize that mankind is special among God’s creation. Genesis 1:27 reminds us, “(ESV) So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” We are not just another animal, but we bear the image of God. Therefore, let us resist any efforts to devalue human life on any scale. We are special to God, and we ought to be special to
one another as well.
You’ll just have to read this one for yourself:
Activists Want Chimp Declared a “Person.”
No, this is no joke.
But, as one of my friends sarcastically sent in an email: “We all evolved from them anyway, so why should we question the chimp being a person.”
Thanks, Derek, for the link to the article and Dave for the comment.
In case you haven’t heard, evolutionists have “discovered” what they claim to be a stronger link between dinosaurs and birds. They have linked the T Rex and…the chicken!
As always, Apologetics Press has written an excellent article about this topic.
